Born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1959, I was bought to England in 1960 to Lincolnshire where I started painting and drawing as a small child. Entirely self taught I have maintained my painting ever since. After leaving school in the 70's I came to Cornwall to Falmouth College and started my career in Boatbuilding and then in the insurance industry to interior designing in the late 80's from commercial interiors to domestic. I have been involved with all types over the last 24 years. Producing designs on paper to begin with and now using CAD with photo realistic rendering, richardcliff-design.co.uk.

I have always painted mainly watercolours and although I have only recently put my work on public display in galleries. Examples of my work can be found in collections around the world as far as Australia. I have a particular interest in Maritime subjects having learned to sail and row from the age of 5. I find the sea has so many different aspects and it never fails to inspire me, especially the land and seascape of Cornwall. I also love photography and use my many photographs to record subjects for my paintings.

I work mainly in watercolours but do also use other media occasionally. I will happily to undertake commissions, particularly of houses or boats and have done many successful paintings for clients in the past.
